Get Organised - DIY Timber Drawer Dividers

Step by step instructions to easily make drawer dividers.

We’re on a bit of a Spring clean mission at the moment, working through all of the drawers and cupboards in our house figuring out the best way to utilise every space.

Creating custom drawer dividers to suit your specific needs and space is a really great way to maximise the area you’re working with.

Custom joinery can be expensive particularly when the drawers you’re working with are not a standard size. These steps can be applied to any drawer throughout your house, I know we’ll be doing them in every room!

NAILS

step 1.

For my outside box measurement I used the cutlery holder we already had, if you don’t have one , measure your internal drawer measurements.

step 2.

I cut my timber to length and using a nail gun joined my corners. I ran inside and checked that it fit my drawer perfectly.

Step 3.

For my internal sections I laid out and measured all of the pieces I wanted to include.

Step 4.

Working through each section I measured inside the box and cut my timber to length. I marked my guidelines using a carpenter's square to make sure that my dividers went in straight and joined my pieces into place with my nail gun***

***Some of the smaller gaps were a little tricky to get with a nail gun so I pre-drilled and hand-nailed those joins.

Step 5.

Once joined together I punched all of the nails in to create a smooth surface.

Step 6.

I sanded my piece all over making sure that all of my joins were sanded smooth and using hand sandpaper I gave all of the edges a light sand.
